You might experience the feeling that everything to do with the wedding evolves around your future wife, but it’s not so. Remember, it’s your big day too, so why not try making it as special as it can be.

Let’s start with the face. Moisturizing is an essential part of the process of making yourself strikingly handsome and if that’s not something you do already, it’s never too late to start. You’ll be pleasantly surprised with the results after a very short time. Your skin will feel nice to touch and it will look younger and fresher. All cosmetics should be selected basing on what type of skin you have; If you don’t know what kind of moisturizer would be best for you, just ask a shop assistant or a consultant. While there are still men out there who think anything to do with skin care is for women only, more and more males are dispelling that myth.

What’s an absolute must for your wedding day is a clean shave. Again, not only on the wedding day itself, but way earlier, you should be using a fresh razor blade and a good quality shaving gel. This way you will avoid all sorts of cuts and lumps. Remember also about treating your skin well after shaving is completed. Moisturizer will do the job and the bride-to-be will thank you for it too, not having to deal with sharpness of your face whenever you kiss her!

In case you wear a big beard and there is no chance in the world you will hear of shaving it off for the event, ensure it’s clean and as short as possible, giving you an aesthetically pleasing look. You’ll appreciate it when you look at your wedding photographs or the video shots the next day.

Tasks for the groom

As the groom, it is your decision to make, as well as your fiancée’s, about how much you’re to be involved in the wedding preparations. There are some tasks though, that are traditionally considered to belong to the groom.

It goes without saying that you will have to pick someone to be your best man. You’d be wise to think of such a person at the beginning of your wedding preparations and talk to him about it to see if he is as enthusiastic about the idea as you are. Then, accompanied by your bride, you can move on to making a guest list. There, of course, you might encounter a few problems – you probably won’t be able to invite everyone, but don’t let it discourage you.

When it comes to choosing your honeymoon destination, it’s also a good idea to get down to it earlier rather than later. The most popular spots do tend to booked well in advance. Getting all kinds of booklets and travel folders is very easy and gives you a wider choice.

The groom is also supposed to organize transport for the guests to the reception, buy flowers for the bride, her bridesmaids and her mother, a special present for the best man and the bride.

The groom is required to make a speech during the reception. That requires a certain degree of preparation, although it might seem natural that the right things to say will come to mind when the time comes, but often due to nervousness and presence of so many people concentrating their attention on you, it’s easy to get stuck on words. That is why a good idea is to think about what you want to say and anytime you come up with something worth sharing with others, write it down on a piece of paper. When you gather a good few thoughts, put them together and read them several times. More so than learning the speech by heart, try to understand and feel what you’re going to say, delivering a coherent and enjoyable talk.

The way you look

It goes without saying that a choice for the ideal fragrance is a very personal one. It’s easy for a man to find an after shave or cologne that will make an impression, but what’s difficult is finding one that will linger nicely with everyone associating it with the groom for a long time after the wedding day. When using better colognes it’s wise to remember that in fact 'less is more'.

The selection of styles for grooms has got way better with years and literally every colour and its shade is available on the market. One of the traditions is keeping your wedding gown a secret until the big day and it’s usually brides who follow that, but more and more men nowadays find it fun too. It makes the whole process of awaiting your wedding day even more exciting for both of you. It’s advisable though, to let each other know what colour the wedding gowns are going to be in order to avoid clashes.

A classic grey suit with cutaway jacket and pin stripe trousers are the perfect choice for an informal daytime wedding. Accompanied by a waistcoat, a cravat and cufflinks, it’s bound to impress. Otherwise, you might want to go for a longer style jacket with a pair of plain or stripped trousers.
Black tails and trousers with a waistcoat are to be chosen for a formal evening time wedding. What goes greatly with it is a white wing-collared shirt, also white bow tie as well as cufflinks.

A dark grey, navy blue or black lounge suite, along with a white shirt and tie are on the menu when it comes to a semi-formal daytime wedding. Ties in woven silk are a great choice; also completing the look with a breast pocket handkerchief to match is the thing for the style in question.

With such a limitless selection of accessories at hand, you can go crazy with hats, gloves, vests, cufflinks, ties or even tiepins. As far as shoes go, those for the groom and his men should me matching in colour. Another thing that is rather obvious is that shoes should be perfectly polished and accompanied by matching socks.

Not every groom can afford buying a wedding suit or having one made to order, but there is a great alternative available. The groom-to-be can always hire a suit, especially as hire companies offer a wonderful selection of those, bearing in mind the latest fashion pieces. In case of hiring though, it’s again advisable to make up your mind at a pretty early stage, as suits that interest you might be booked well in advance.

Last thing to remember about the groom’s wedding suit is going for the right fabric. Comfort is of the essence, but the look of the material should also be taken into account. The safe option is always lightweight wool as it resists creasing, whereas linen or cotton, although they present themselves well, do crease easily.  When you’ve all those things taken care of, smile at your bride and enjoy the night you’ve spent so much time preparing for. It’s going to be worth it!
